The subject of life and death came to my mind as a conglomerate of situations that I have seen and heard of over the past few months. I have been checking the local news websites quite frequently lately and it seems that just about every single day there is a local death of someone that could not have been foreseen. I also lost a few relatives this year and everyone knows that during the grieving process life and death is deeply pondered by many.
I have been taking a lot of time to evaluate my own life recently. One of the most important questions I have to ask is, “am I living life to my full potential?” I mean, if an unexpected accident occurred tomorrow, would I be able to pass on from this life knowing that, although I may not have accomplished everything that I set out to do, could I be pleased at where I was in the moment? I do not want to be a person who sits around making plans about what I will do “one day” or complaining about all of the things that I missed out on. I want to live everyday walking out that plan; making progress and moving towards my goals.
The first and [possibly] most important part of living a purposeful life is goal setting. A person has to know what to set his or her sights on in order to know what direction to take. In order to figure out where you are headed, you need to focus on figuring out what you want to accomplish. What is your passion? What drives you? When are you the most happy in your life? Knowing the answer to these questions gives sight into what you should do with your life and a life of purpose is a meaningful life. There are many books available to help people answer these questions and focus their life. I personally am currently reading The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren.
The goal of it all is to live a life that you can be proud of, those you love can be proud of and to leave a legacy that will last for generations. The time we have on earth is precious and not certain. We should take the time that we have been given and make the most of it.
